Hot mic incidents always make for good stories. You get to hear what people really think, which sometimes can be a good thing (Obama calling Kanye West a jackass) and sometimes can be a bad thing (Thom Brennaman).

In this scenario, we’ve got Joe Buck and Troy Aikman sarcastically mocking a pregame flyover before the Tampa/Green Bay game:

Transcribed:

Aikman: That’s a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover.

Buck (in fake announcer voice): That’s your hard-earned money your tax dollars at work!

Aikman: That stuff ain’t happening with Kamala/Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that right now, partner.

This wasn’t heard during the broadcast and comes from the FOX raw feed, so somebody leaked it to Defector. They identified the person as a “tipster.”

The arguments for and against military flyovers typically run on partisan political lines. On one side, you’ve got Democrats/liberals who think like Aikman and Buck, that these are a waste of money and an unnecessary display of jingoism. On the other side, Republicans/conservatives enjoy the patriotic demonstration and point out that military pilots have to maintain a number of flight hours to stay qualified, so you might as well direct them over these kinds of gatherings.

Personally, I think it’s a little weird to have a flyover for a half-empty stadium during the pandemic, because the OPTICS are goofy. But I don’t want to stir up a big political argument on social media, so I’m gonna end the story right here.
