Eagles Reportedly Interviewing Jerod Mayo for Head Coach Job

Jerod Mayo? The linebacker?
Yes, the Eagles are reportedly interviewing him for the head coaching gig, according to Ian Rapoport:
From @GMFB: The #Jets are still meeting with #49ers DC Robert Saleh this morning, as he’s a favorite in their coaching search, while the #Eagles will interview #Patriots ILBs coach Jerod Mayo for their HC opening. They used to call him Jerod Belichick in NE. pic.twitter.com/lf71HMmmuB

Mayo could also be a defensive coordinator candidate. This is one of those “kill two birds with one stone” kind of interviews, where they can get a feel for the guy in general and then figure out which position he might be a better fit for (if any).
The former New England standout is 34 years old and took the Pats’ ILB gig in 2019. He was a really good player back in the day and went to two Pro Bowls while earning a Super Bowl ring in his final NFL season. Hiring him would definitely be a leap, but he’s highly regarded in NFL circles and there’s nothing wrong with the Eagles getting out in front here and granting him an interview. Due diligence and whatnot.
