On Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will play host to the Portland Trail Blazers for the first time this season. The Sixers (16-6) are rolling as the top team in the Eastern Conference, while the visiting Trail Blazers (11-9) enter play as the Western Conference’s seventh seed, though they’ll be short-handed in this one.

Let’s get into our Sixers-Trail Blazers betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Preview

The Philadelphia 76ers have hit a real groove, winning games in a variety of ways, thanks in large part to the MVP play of franchise center Joel Embiid. He’s been absolutely sensational and has cemented himself as the best center in the league bar none through the first 22 games of the season. He’s racked up at least 33 points in five of his last six games, while pulling down double-digit boards over that same stretch. The Sixers have won four straight games and are 9-2 over their last 11 games. They’ve also won eight straight with Embiid in the lineup.

The Trail Blazers have gone 2-3 in their past five games and are 2-2- thus far in a six-game road trip. Portland benefitted from a Herculean effort from Damian Lillard on Tuesday night in their 132-121 victory over the Washington Wizards. Lillard dropped 32 points and dished out eight assists in the victory. Meanwhile, the duo of Gary Trent Jr. and Carmelo Anthony contributed 53 points in the winning effort.

The Trail Blazers are expected to be shorthanded as Nassir Little, CJ McCollum, Jusuf Nurkic, and Zach Collins are all out. Meanwhile, Lillard and Derrick Jones Jr. are listed as questionable. If Lillard can’t go, the already difficult task of winning in Philadelphia will get even trickier.

Sixers to Win and Over 223.5 Points (+245, DraftKings)

Dame Lillard’s questionable status leaves a little bit of uncertainty on the points side of the things, but not on the Sixers’ ability or likelihood to win the game.

Philadelphia has seen the total points go over the threshold three times in their last five games, including their last two. The Trail Blazers have seen the over hit in four of their last five games, including their last three by an average of roughly 10 points per game.

The teams split their two meetings a season ago, with the Sixers pulling out a one-point win on November 2, 2019 and Portland pulling out a three-point victory on August 9, 2020. The Sixers are 14-3 when installed as the favorite this season and they’ve won 25 of their last 26 games at Wells Fargo Center.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Joel Embiid Over 0.5 Made 3-Pointers (-200, DraftKings)

This is an easy money prop to take advantage of. Joel Embiid has hit at least one three-pointer in 15 of 17 games he’s played in this season. The last time he failed to do so was back on January 12 in an overtime win against the Miami Heat in which he dominated the paint and only put up three attempts from deep.

He’s coming off a stellar 3-5 performance from beyond the arc against Charlotte and should be in line for another big night inside the paint and along the perimeter.

Ben Simmons to Record a Double-Double (+150, BetMGM)

We’ve often drawn attention to this prop when available due to Simmons’ ability to fill up a stat sheet. He’s averaging  13.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game this season and has come tantalizingly close to a double-double in three straight games following a triple-double effort against the Los Angeles Lakers.

In Simmons’ only appearance against Portland a season ago, the Sixers point guard nearly recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Sixers vs. Trail Blazers Prediction

Pick: The Trail Blazers would have a much better chance of winning this game if Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were both healthy. Without McCollum in the lineup and with Lillard’s game availability up in the air, it’s hard to see Portland handing Philadelphia their second loss in 27 games at Wells Fargo Center. Take the Sixers to Win and Over 223.5 Points. Also, be sure to take the Joel Embiid to score over 0.5 three-pointers at DraftKings Sportsbook in one of the easiest prop bet markets you’ll find all season.
