We don’t often write about wrestling on this here website, but every so often there’s some goofy story that’s worth a few laughs.

Coggin suggested this one, since it’s got a Philly connection via Extreme Championship Wrestling, which was based out of the city about 20 years ago.

Rob Van Dam is going into the WWE Hall of Fame:

RVD had a couple of stints with WWE over over the years, moving to the promotion when ECW shut down in 2001. He won pretty much everything during his time there. He was World champ, Hardcore champ, Intercontinental champ, Euro champ, tag team, etc. All of that. Fans really seemed to enjoy him because they were familiar with his pre-WWE days.

Not sure about you, but when I think of ECW, I think of four guys: Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, and Tazz. Honorable mention to Shane Douglas and Raven, but there is only room for four wrestlers on the Mount Rushmore.

And RVD had some badass moves. The five-star frog splash was a favorite. We used to deliver those as kids messing around in our parent’s basements. Rolling Thunder was pretty gnarly.

But the best were the Van Daminator and Van Terminator, which were sort of the same thing. Both involved a steel chair. One of them involved throwing the chair to the opponent and then kicking him in the face while he was holding it. This was the other one:

So good.

ECW! ECW! ECW!
