On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers will play host to the New York Rangers for the first time since the Rangers handed the Flyers a 9-0 defeat at Madison Square Garden.

Let’s get into our Flyers-Rangers betting pick with player prop predictions, odds and analysis for this March 25, 2021 matchup.

Flyers vs. Rangers Betting Pick (March 25, 2021)

The Philadelphia Flyers enter play in this one at 15-12-4, two points back of the Boston Bruins for the fourth seed in the East Division. Unfortunately for Philadelphia, Boston has three games in hand on the Flyers. Meanwhile, the gap between the Flyers and the third place Pittsburgh Penguins is eight points.

The Flyers have had a horrific month of March, going 4-8-1 and dropping from the top end of the East Division to the brink of dropping to sixth place depending on how these next two games against the Rangers play out. Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher met with the media on Wednesday afternoon and reiterated that while he’s been active making calls, he hasn’t received many. The message in that press conference was clear: this group had better figure it out fast, regardless of how the trade market pans out.

The New York Rangers are in the midst of a solid push toward the East Division’s top four, having gone 3-1-0 in their last four games, including the 9-0 beatdown they served up to the Flyers on March 17. After dropping a road game 2-1 to the Washington Capitals, New York exacted their revenge on the second half of the back-to-back, toppling the Caps 3-1. Their most recent victory came on Monday in a 5-3 result at home against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Flyers and Rangers have split the season series through four games. Who will break the tie?

Bets We Like With a Rangers Win

Money Puck gives the Rangers a 58.8% chance of winning this game. Meanwhile, New York’s implied win probability based on the moneyline is 52%.

Rangers Win and Over 5.5 Goals (+188, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Taking the Rangers to win against the Flyers might have seemed inconceivable at the end of February, but the month of March has been such a disaster for the Orange & Black that anything is possible. New York’s 9-0 decimation of the Flyers at Madison Square Garden should have been a wakeup call for the Flyers, who came to life a bit in their next game, but whose biggest consistency has been their inconsistency.

The Rangers, meanwhile, lost a competitive road game against the Capitals 2-1, collected themselves, and won 3-1 on the road against the same Washington squad one night later. They then got the job done at home, dispatching of the lowly Buffalo Sabres 5-3 on Monday night. That’s notable as the game against the Sabres fit the bill of a trap game, yet New York did not succumb. The Rangers could draw level on points with Philadelphia via regulation win and could even pull ahead of their division rivals with a few positive results in this two-game set.

As for the over, the Rangers have scored at least three goals in five of their last six games, including scoring four goals against the Bruins and Flyers before laying the aforementioned nine-goal beatdown on the Orange & Black. In four matchups against the Flyers this season, the over 5.5 goals market has hit in three games, with the first matchup missing the mark:

  • 2/18/21 @ PHI: 3-2 (SO)
  • 2/24/21 @ PHI: 4-3
  • 3/15/21 v. PHI: 5-4 (OT)
  • 3/17/21 v. PHI: 9-0

If the Rangers can get up early, this game could get out of control, but as we saw against the Devils, Philadelphia can flip a late-game scoring switch.

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Flyers Win and Under 7.5 Goals (+165, BetMGM)

The Flyers’ inconsistency this season has been absolutely maddening for the players, coaching staff, front office, fans, and media alike. The same team that got embarrassed by the Rangers in New York dominated play in stretches against the Islanders, only to blow a three-goal lead and salvage a victory with a late Oskar Lindblom goal. The same team that got waxed 6-1 against the Isles came back the next game and were on the verge of a 1-0 shutout win before blowing the lead in the third and falling in overtime. They’re the same team that looked dead in the water for 50 minutes at home against the Devils, only to roar back and claw within a goal, with the game finishing 4-3. The problem is that taking them to win a game is a dangerous proposition. We would advise going with the Rangers in this one, but if you believe this is the night the Orange & Black put together a full 60 minutes, parlay it with a total that implies the game won’t delve into the absurd.

The Flyers have seen the total goals go over 5.5 in 11 of their last 13 games, with Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss fitting the trend. The issue in taking the over is the incredibly limited value it holds in a parlay, especially since it takes away the possibility that Philadelphia ramps up their defensive effort like they did against the Islanders two games ago. While it doesn’t pay out a wild multiplier, there’s still some value in getting a bit of a boost in a same-game parlay.

Any bettor who feels the under 7.5 goals portion of the bet doesn’t provide enough upside can parlay under 6.5 goals and the Flyers to win at +260 odds with DraftKings Sportsbook.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

Mika Zibanejad to Record Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-160, BetMGM)

Mika Zibanejad has had his fair share of struggles this season, but his most recent six-game stretch has certainly leant credence to the belief that he’s finally turned a corner and could be on his way back to his elite goalscoring self. Zibanejad has recorded a multi-point game in three of those six games, including two of his last four. He’s found the back of the net four times, including a hat trick against the Flyers, to go along with seven assists. The reason this bet is worthwhile is it eliminates the need for him to get on the scoresheet, while taking advantage of his confident play. Zibanejad has registered four shots on goal in three of his last four games, including once against the Flyers. The outlier in that trend came in a loss to Washington, when he put three pucks on net, which still cleared the 2.5 shot threshold. Extending the timeline a bit back to March 9 would also provide two further examples of his aggressive play, racking up six- and five-shot performances against the Penguins and Bruins, respectively.

If you’re looking for a low-risk player prop with plenty of upside, this is the one.

Flyers vs. Rangers Prediction

Pick: The Flyers are an inconsistent mess of a team and placing money on them to win is inadvisable in this one. Take the Rangers to Win and Over 5.5 Goals. Also, get in on Mika Zibanejad to record over 2.5 shots on goal.
