Flyers vs. Sabres Betting Pick (March 9, 2021)

Entering play exactly a week ago, the Flyers were 11-4-3 coming off back-to-back shutout victories over the Sabres in Buffalo. They had lost just one game in regulation to a team not named the Boston Bruins. What followed was a painful 1-3-0 stretch that including two losses to the cross-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins, and most recently a home loss to the Washington Capitals. Philadelphia has two more games this week against the Caps, but first they have to get through tonight’s matchup with the Buffalo Sabres.

The Buffalo Sabres are in the midst of a horrible season, including the fewest points in the league. Buffalo is 0-6-1 in their last seven games, a stretch that included consecutive 3-0 shutout losses to the same Philadelphia Flyers squad they’ll face tonight. To the Sabres’ credit, they’ve been consistent, scoring two goals per game in each of their last four games, all of which have come on the road. Tonight’s game marks the end of their five-game road trip that started exactly a week ago.

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Money Puck gives the Flyers just a 70.5% chance of winning this game. Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s implied win probability based on the moneyline is slightly lower at 67%.

Flyers Win and Over 4.5 Goals (-120, BetMGM)

After suffering a 6-1 beatdown loss at home at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres back on January 18, the Flyers have rattled off three straight 3-0 shutout wins over their visitors from the north. Philadelphia has gone 14-0-0 in their last 14 games as favorites following a loss and will look to do so over the basement-dwellers of the East Division.

Interestingly enough, Buffalo has more wins on the road (4) than at home (2) this season, including the aforementioned 6-1 victory in Philadelphia in mid-January. Although the Flyers have suffered two straight defeats, Buffalo is in the midst of a six-game losing streak.

As for the over/under, BetMGM is offering a same-game parlay on the Flyers moneyline and over 4.5 goals, which is lower than the over/under alone at most sportsbooks, which stands at 5.5 goals as of early Tuesday afternoon. Just playing the averages, Philadelphia averages 3.2 goals per game, while Buffalo averages 3.3 goals against. On the flip side, Buffalo averages 2.3 goals for and Philadelphia averages 3.1 goals against per game. Despite Philadelphia shutting out Buffalo in three consecutive games, there’s reason to believe Buffalo will get on the board in this game, regardless of who’s in net for the Flyers. Philadelphia has given up fifteen goals in their last four games, while Buffalo has fifteen goals in their last three games.

If you’re planning on taking the Philadelphia moneyline, take advantage of this same-game parlay from BetMGM at -120 odds.
