Jeez, this is really sad.

Shawn Bradley, who was selected by the Sixers #2 overall in the 1993 NBA Draft, revealed that he was struck by a car while riding his bike and suffered a spinal cord injury that currently has him paralyzed:

Bradley played in Dallas from 1997 to 2005 after a layover with the New Jersey Nets, following his trade from the Sixers.

The Mavs’ statement says this:

Man, that’s incredibly sad. He was right outside of his house when the accident happened? Just one block away. He’s been in the hospital for eight weeks already.

Bradley is only 48 years old, and had a nice run with the Mavs about 20 years ago. He finished his NBA career with 2.5 blocks per game while averaging 8.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. He even put up a 20/20/10 triple double with points, rebounds, and blocks. Found himself a really nice niche on those Dallas teams back in the day.

Terrible news, and hopefully he’ll make some progress in his recovery. With medicine coming a long way over the last 10 years, maybe they can get him up and walking again. Fingers crossed.
