Deshaun Watson, with a Bazillion Civil Lawsuits Pending, Again Linked to the Eagles

Let’s get it back to the Eagles.

I guess we have to share this rumor/report because anything regarding the Birds’ quarterback position is the type of story that skyrockets to the top of the site and garners a lot of interest.

It’s another Deshaun Watson link, this time from Pro Football Talk:

Much has to happen before Deshaun Watson could be traded, especially if he’s going to be traded at or around the 2021 draft. If, somehow, Watson manages to properly and appropriately settle the 22 civil lawsuits pending against him before the draft, there’s one team to watch closely as a potential destination.

The Eagles.

Yes, the Eagles. They have Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco, but Deshaun Watson has proven that he’s a franchise quarterback, and one of the best players in the NFL. As one league source explains it, the Eagles are sufficiently determined to upgrade the team that they would pursue Watson, if the window opens for doing so.

My first thought is that we just put the Odubel Herrera situation to bed (kind of), so what exactly would the fan response be if the Eagles go for a guy with this kind of baggage? Yeah, the legal issues could certainly be resolved in the near future, but right now Watson seems like he’s so toxic that you wouldn’t touch him with a 10,000 foot pole, let alone a ten-foot pole, which is a great ZZ Top song.

The positive thing, is that with the Eagles trading back and picking up that extra first-round draft pick, they give themselves “optionality,” which isn’t a word (even though sports executives throw it around all the time). They could give Jalen Hurts a shot this year, or if a QB slips in the draft, take that guy instead. If Hurts turns out to not be the guy, then next year you draft a QB or take a look at the Watson trade if it makes sense. Regardless, they have some ammunition that they did not originally have.

Watson is a stud, and would be awesome in Philadelphia, but the baggage has to be cleaned up first, or else it would worse than Herrera and Michael Vick combined. Twitter would be more unbearable than it already is.
