This is a result of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signing a bill that makes a number of sweeping changes to the voting setup in that state. Of course, we at Crossing Broad have not read the entire thing, so we’ll refrain from editorializing, because what will happen is that angry people will go on the Facebook page and 50% of them will accuse us of being “pussy libz” and the other 50% will accuse us of being “MAGAs.”

The takeaway is that it’s somewhat surprising that MLB, which doesn’t have a reputation for being on the frontline of the social justice movement, would act this quickly, or act this way at all. This might be something we’d expect from the NBA or MLS, whereas baseball is seen as old school with a fan base that trends a little older and a little whiter.

After the Georgia law was signed, you had a lot of progressive types calling for boycotts of various sorts. They wanted Coca Cola and Delta to leave the state and do business elsewhere. It was that kind of thing, similar to any situation where a southern state signs something deemed controversial into law.
