Grizzlies vs. Warriors Player Prop Picks (May 21, 2021)

The NBA’s Play-In Tournament has certainly created some intrigue and buzz for the league, while allowing the top-6 squads in each conference to get a bit of rest in the process. Interestingly enough, the Eastern Conference seedings went down the same way as the regular season standings finished, with Boston as the seventh seed and Washington as the eighth seed. On the Western Conference side of the bracket, the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Golden State Warriors in the battle for the seventh seed locked them into their regular season seeding. Now all eyes turn to the Chase Center as MVP candidate Steph Curry will look to clinch a postseason berth as his Golden State Warriors play host to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies walked away with a 100-96 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, a game in which Dillon Brooks, Jonas Valančiūnas, and Ja Morant combined for 67 points. The Warriors nearly pulled off a road upset at Staples Center, falling to a last-minute three pointer from LeBron James in a 103-100 loss. Steph Curry went off for 37 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in the contest.

Will Curry continue his MVP-caliber season into the playoffs or will the Grizzlies earn a first round matchup against the Utah Jazz?

Steph Curry to Score Over 29.5 Points and Warriors to Win (-150, FOX Bet)

For a professional sports franchise to reach the pinnacle, star players have to show up in the biggest games. That’s exactly what 2021 MVP candidate and two-time MVP winner Steph Curry has done throughout his career. His ability to put his team on his back and lead them to within a game of a postseason berth has been nothing short of remarkable. When his fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson was lost to a torn Achilles in the offseason, Golden State was written off with many pundits believing Curry’s squad would end up in the draft lottery again. Instead, Curry saw his points per game rise from 26.5 in December to 32.1 in February. After playing just six games in March, he averaged 37.3 points per game in April and 34.6 points per game in May. Simply put, Curry’s ability to score in bunches cannot be matched by any player in the league. In fact, despite missing time in March, Curry’s exceptional 23 games led him past Bradley Beal for the league’s scoring title.

In his last ten games -including the play-in loss to the Lakers- Curry has scored at least 30 points nine times. In the Warriors’ regular season finale against the Grizzlies, Curry dropped 46 points in a 12-point home victory.

Draymond Green to Record Over 28.5 Combined Points, Rebounds, and Assists (-113, DraftKings Sportsbook)

If Steph Curry has been Batman this season, Draymond Green has been his 6’6″ 230lb. Robin. Green has continued in his role as a hybrid forward/center depending on traditional or small ball lineups, bringing defensive tenacity, prowess on the glass, and underrated court vision. His 8.9 assists per game were the most on the team as were his 7.1 rebounds per game.

Green’s 10.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in May represented the highest monthly averages of the season, while his 10.5 assists per game was just 0.1 behind what he amassed in February.

Although Green only put up 19 combined points, rebounds, and assists against the Lakers, his final regular season game against Memphis saw him put up 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists (32 total). That game against Memphis was part of a three out of four games stretch that saw him go over 28.5 combined points, rebounds, and assists.

With a chance to play the role of an underdog in a first round matchup, expect Green to help Curry get into the postseason with a big game.

Ja Morant to Make Over 1.5 Three-Point Field Goals (-115, BetMGM)

When it comes to young point guards who could eventually take on the mantle of Steph Curry, Ja Morant’s name is at the top of nearly every pundit and fan’s list. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year averaged 19.1 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game this season, all of which exceeded his rookie numbers.

Morant’s three-point shooting numbers jumped a bit from 20% in January and February to 27.6% in March before jumping off the page at 40.9% in April. Although that average dipped to 32.6% in May, his attempts per game were up, and he was on track to meet or slightly exceed the raw number of made shots from beyond the mark in May. Although Morant went just 2-13 from deep in three contests against the Warriors this season, he’s coming off a 2-5 performance against the Spurs in a tight win that got Memphis into this final play-in game. He’s gone over two made three pointers in four of his last seven games. We expect him to put up at least five attempts from downtown, connecting on at least two.
