Remember that lacrosse kerfuffle from a few weeks ago? There was video showing a Methacton volunteer coach punching a North Penn player in the helmet after a sequence in which a teammate hit another player out of bounds.

North Penn Now had the video and was first to report on the story, noting that Methacton’s superintendent apologized while the declaring that the matter had “been addressed.”

But according to Keith Heffintrayer, the coach did end up being charged:

North Penn Now spoke with Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel on Thursday afternoon, who stated that the investigation had concluded and, after consulting with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, the coach had been charged with one summary count of harassment.

Troxel acknowledged the public outcry for an assault charge, but stated that a charge of simple assault requires there to be bodily injury, bodily injury caused by a deadly weapon, or fear of imminent serious bodily injury — which is legally defined as “a substantial risk of death or which causes serious, permanent disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of a bodily member or organ.”

So there you go. No assault charge. He hit the player in the helmet and there was no damage done. Heffintrayer has more on the summary count and what it entails at the North Penn Now website, and you can jog your memory with the video clip here:
