On Thursday night, the Milwaukee Bucks will play host to the Atlanta Hawks for Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Finals series.

Let’s take a closer look at the top Hawks vs. Bucks Game 5 player prop picks and make some predictions for this July 1, 2021 NBA Playoffs matchup.

Hawks vs. Bucks Player Props (July 1, 2021)

The Eastern Conference Finals series between the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks is tied at two games apiece, making this now a best-of-three series with the Bucks holding homecourt advantage beginning Thursday night. Game 4 was a wild affair, with Hawks superstar guard Trae Young unable to go with a bone bruise in his foot, while Milwaukee’s two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was forced out of the game with a hyperextended knee.

The Hawks ultimately prevailed in Game 4 in a 110-88 victory built on the backs of Atlanta’s starters, four of whom scored in double figures. Lou Williams earned his first career playoff start, shooting an efficient 7-9 from the field en route to 21 points. Bogdan Bogdanovic posted 20 points of his own, while Clint Capela and Kevin Huerter each contributed 15 points. Cam Reddish and Danilo Gallinari dropped 12 and 10 points, respectively off the bench.

The Bucks were in the midst of a strong road effort and Antetokounmpo had shot 7-10 from the field, finishing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals prior to his injury. Jrue Holiday scored a team-high 19 points, while Khris Middleton cooled off significantly in a 16-point performance. If Milwaukee is to have any chance of winning –with Giannis listed as doubtful– the Bucks will need a stronger effort from their starters and bench.

Which team will take a critical 3-2 series lead?

Game 6 Best Bets
Jrue Holiday to Score 20+ Points (-120, BetMGM)
Devin Booker to Score 30+ Points and Make 3+ Three-Pointers (+220, FanDuel Sportsbook)
Pat Connaughton to Make Over 1.5 Three-Point Field Goals (-222, FOX Bet)

Khris Middleton to Record Over 14.5 Combined Rebounds and Assists (-154, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Khris Middleton was critical to getting the Bucks past the Brooklyn Nets and into the Eastern Conference Finals, however he’s been erratic shooting the rock against the Hawks. After two 15-point performances in the first two games at home, Middleton exploded for 38 points in a Game 3 win in Atlanta before crashing back down to Earth with just 16 points in Game 4.

If there’s one area in which Middleton has been consistent, it’s been his ability to secure rebounds and dish out assists:

  • Game 6 v. BRK: 10 REB, 5 AST (15 total)
  • Game 7 @ BRK: 10 REB, 6 AST (16 total)
  • Game 1 v. ATL: 5 REB, 4 AST (9 total)
  • Game 2 v. ATL: 7 REB, 8 AST (15 total)
  • Game 3 @ ATL: 11 REB, 7 AST (18 total)
  • Game 4 @ ATL: 8 REB, 5 AST (13 total)

Considering the fact that he’s posted 15+ combined rebounds in four of his last six games, as well as the likely absence of Antetokoumnpo, this one could hit in a big way.

Jrue Holiday to Score 23+ Points (-123, FOX Bet)

Two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s potential absence from the Bucks’ lineup will necessitate someone to step up and fill the 28.2 points per game he’s averaged this postseason. Given the aforementioned up-and-down scoring performances by Khris Middleton, there’s only one player on Milwaukee’s squad who could fit the bill: Jrue Holiday.

Holiday is coming of a 19-point performance in which he shot 6-17 from the field, including 2-7 from beyond the arc. He also had his best performance from the free throw line in Game 4, going 5-6, both of which were playoff-highs.

To be clear, Holiday has only scored 23+ points once in 15 postseason games, dropping 33 points in Game 1 at home in Milwaukee to start this series. However, if Giannis is unable to go, Holiday will likely return to the combo guard role that earned him a four year contract worth at least $134m. Expect him to take at least 19 field goal attempts while looking to get to the free throw line.

Bogdan Bogdanovic to Make 1+ Three-Point Field Goals in the First Quarter  (-105, BetMGM)

If you’re looking for a player prop that should hit within the first 12 minutes of Game 5, this one is for you. Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic had a great start to the postseason, scoring 12+ points in eight of his first nine games. However, he began to struggle and battle injuries midway through the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers and hadn’t reached double figures until Game 4, breaking a six-game streak of eight or fewer points.

After failing to attempt a three-point field goal in the first quarter of either of the first two games of the series, Bogdanovic connected on two of five attempts in the first quarter of Game 3 and one of three first quarter attempts in Game 4.

Regardless of whether Trae Young is in the lineup, expect head coach Nate McMillan to draw up some plays for Bogdanovic to get some clean looks from beyond the arc early in this one.
