Dinger Gate: Turns Out that Rockies Fan Was Not Yelling a Racial Slur

Sunday night, the Colorado Rockies put out a statement condemning what was thought to be racist language coming from the stands and directed towards the Marlins’ Lewis Brinson. It was believed that this fan was using the N word.

Upon further review, this was determined to not be the case. It was found, on video, that the fan was shouting the word “Dinger,” as he was trying to get the attention of the Rockies’ mascot, which is named… Dinger:

NEW: The Rockies tell me last night’s incident was a fan shouting to get the attention of the Rockies mascot Dinger, not a racial slur. The Rockies have spoken to the fan who confirms this is the case. They’ve also reviewed video from the local broadcast. #9News

Incredible. This story is awesome. We thought the worst, with brazen racist behavior. It was despicable.

But when the investigation concluded, it was determined that the guy was actually yelling “Dinger.”

You can’t make this shit up.
