Italian-Style Meats Linked to Salmonella Outbreaks
Well, this is just great.
In addition to the Delta variant running wild in the United States, we’ve got two Salmonella outbreaks to deal with. It wasn’t even a year ago that Italian-style meats were being linked to a Listeria problem, and now this, via Food Safety News:
Inspectors are looking for specific sources of two new Salmonella outbreaks that have been associated with Italian-style meats. Three dozen people from 17 states have been confirmed infected so far.
A third of the patients have been so sick they had to be admitted to hospitals, according to an outbreak announcement today from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
No recall has been initiated because investigators are still trying to determine the specific meats involved.
The specific meats? Probably Gabagool. Let’s just hope the outbreak doesn’t hit the Delaware Valley, because I’m willing to bet that 92% of people in this region have eaten Italian-style meats in the past seven days. Maybe you’ve been to Wawa, Primo Hoagies, any deli in South Philadelphia, etc. Only Tony Soprano and Paulie Walnuts ate more Italian-style meats, per capita, than the residents of the Greater Philadelphia region.
We’ll keep an eye on this breaking news story.
