If you’re an old-school Philadelphia sports fan, you know that Phil Sheridan and Angelo Cataldi have disliked each other for a long time. Various barbs were traded over the course of many years.

Sheridan has, in the past, labeled Cataldi a buffoon and generally criticized WIP for blowing half truths out of proportion. Cataldi, if I recall correctly, would regularly trash Sheridan’s newspaper stories on the radio.

The pair originally crossed paths on the Eagles beat back in the Kelly Green days, and in a recent appearance on Let’s Go to the Phones, Sheridan told Uncle Coggin, co-host Chris, and Producer Pat that Cataldi was “one of the worst” human beings he’s ever met:

“He figured out at some point that he could make money by pandering to the people he despised.”

Fact check: true!

Angelo is a smart guy. He knows exactly what he’s doing. His brand is bulletproof. All you have to do is pretend to be outraged and keep the dumbest portion of Philadelphia sports fans dumb. “I’m so angry about Gabe Kapler” and blah blah blah. “This guy is a fraud” and yadda yadda yadda. Rinse and repeat, for 30 years.

It’s kind of like the book Brave New World, where all of this advanced technology exists. But they need someone to push the elevator buttons and do the menial tasks, so they purposefully engineer dumb people. That’s Cataldi. Not the dumb guy, but the engineer. Without the dummies, he cannot exist. There is no subsistence.
