Flyers vs. Canucks Betting Preview (October 15, 2021)
The Philadelphia Flyers look a lot different as they kick off their 2021-22 season tonight against the Vancouver Canucks.
Seven players in tonight’s starting lineup weren’t on the roster a season ago, as the Flyers re-tooled in an effort to get back to where they were during the 2019-20 season, where they were one win away from the Eastern conference Finals.
Meanwhile, Vancouver comes I to this season as a team that is continuing to grow around a young core and has hopes of returning to the playoffs after a season that was completely ravaged by a CoVid-19 outbreak in their locker room last Spring.

The Canucks kicked off their season Wednesday with a 3-2 shootout loss in Edmonton. Newly acquired defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the first Canucks goal of the season – and his first in Vancouver and Quinn Hughes scored to force overtime.

Bets We Like with a Flyers Win
Claude Giroux to register at least one point (+145, BetMGM)
The Flyers definitely bolstered their defense in the offseason and expect a bounce back from Carter Hart to be solid again in goal, but their offense still leaves a little bit to be desired, especially with injuries to Kevin Hayes and Wade Allison, a prospect the expected to contribute to the score sheet, that have them out of the lineup.
With Jake Voracek gone to Columbus in exchange for Cam Atkinson, the Flyers are going to look to some old faces to provide some scoring. Giroux has never been a huge goal-scoring threat, but he is an elite playmaker and does find his teammates in scoring position regularly.
Combine that with an improved power play and getting the captain to register just one point at good odds is a nice bet for the opener.

Bets We Like with a Canucks Win
Brock Boeser to score a goal (+230, FanDuel Sportsbook)

The Canucks like the depth of their forward lines and hope to create matchup problems with the opposition all season long.
Boeser is a guy they are counting on to put the puck in the net. He didn’t in the opener, but now they catch the Flyers down a top four defenseman as Rasmus Ristolainen will miss the Flyers first game with an upper body injury.
Look for the Canucks to try to take advantage of that and create mismatches against the Flyers second and third pairs of defensemen.
Elias Petterson is also a good bet here at +200 (FanDuel).

One of the things the Flyers have been preaching throughout training camp is better team defense. It’s a good bet, that even without one of their top four defenseman in the lineup, that will still be their M.O. against a speedy Vancouver team.
The Flyers will try to play heavy against the Canucks and control puck possession, hoping to tire out a Canucks team who is travelling to start the season.
Look for the Flyers to keep it a lower scoring game, and close, but pull out the win – something that they’re going to try to do with regularity over the first several games of the season.

Flyers vs. Canucks Prediction
These are two teams who play different styles. It’ll be a matter of which team gets to set the tempo of the game. With the last change, look for Flyers coach Alain Vigneault to try and take advantage of some size matchups as well as get the Flyers winning key faceoffs, something they should be at the top of the leaguer at doing this season with the centers they have in the lineup.
This will be a low-scoring affair, and one that could slink into extra time, but we’ll believe in the Flyers defense-first system for this one. Call it Flyers 3, Canucks 2.
