Flyers vs. Kraken Betting Pick (October 18, 2021)
The NHL didn’t do it’s expansion team a favor in it’s first week of play as a franchise, sending the Kraken on a five-game road trip in the span of a week, traversing across the country from Las Vegas, to Nashville to Columbus and now Philadelphia (and tomorrow in New Jersey), before finally making their season debut in front of the Seattle faithful Saturday against Vancouver.
Seattle has started off respectably though, going 1-1-1 in those first three games, all three decided by one goal. It’s very Dave Hakstol of them. Flyers fans will remember similar stretches when Hakstol was the head coach in Philadelphia. The Flyers will look to taker advantage of 5-on-5 play. Of the nine goals the Kraken have allowed through three games, seven have come at 5-on-5.

The Flyers have played just one game so far this season – a 5-4 shootout loos to the Canucks – but at 5-on-5 the Flyers were the better team. Look for the Flyers to t try and impose their puck possession will on Seattle and then take advantage of power play chances if the Kraken get a little undisciplined.
Let’s take a look at this matchup between Philadelphia and Seattle, from a betting perspective in our Flyers vs. Kraken betting preview with odds, picks and predictions.

We’re gonna throw two bets at you here that we like. The one listed above is first, because it’s the more likely outcome.
The Flyers should be the better even-strength team and should control the tempo and pace of the game against Seattle. The Kraken have a more veteran defensive corps and goaltending, but their weakness is up front where they are either young, or lack the talent to match the Flyers lineup possession-wise. Not to mention, This is the fourth city the Kraken have been to in the last six days and took Sunday off for needed rest following an overtime loss in Columbus in which they blew a 1-0 lead in the third period and eventually succumbed to the lowly Blue Jackets.
Look for the Flyers to jump out early and then stifle Seattle for the rest of the game as Carter Hart looks to improve an an uneven opening game in goal.
The second bet is where the Flyers win by 3 goals or more (+300 BetMGM). This is definitely more risky than the first bet we gave you, but it’s not a stretch. We see this as a two-goal Flyer lead late that could finish with an empty-netter and a win for both you and the Flyers.

Bets We Like with a Kraken Win
Branden Tanev to score a goal (+560, FanDuel Sportsbook)
We really don’t like Seattle in this matchup at all, but, seeing the odds on Tanev, make us think this is a worthy flier. Tanev has been an all situations player for the Kraken so far and has scored three goals already, two at even strength and one on the power play. Tanev is not known for being a consistent scorer, but sometimes when you have an expansion team, certain guys start doing things differently because they are asked to have a more expanded role. Considering he’s getting the opportunities to play bigger and more important minutes, and the fact that he’s finding the net so far, it’s hard to ignore these odds and to try and cash in if you can.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome
OVER 6 goals (+100, BetMGM)
Three of the four games that these two teams have played so far this season has gone over six goals, and this one shouldn’t be any different. Early season hockey games tend to be a bit more wide open with more power plays handed out by officials and more ease and access to higher percentage scoring areas. As long as you see Over/under lines in hockey at 5.5 or fewer in October, it’s worth pounding the OVER as you will come out ahead more often than not. This one is six, but 14 games this season have already exceeded six goals too. If you want to get that extra half goal insurance, you can get OVER 5.5 for -125 at either DraftKings or BetMGM.

Penguins vs. Panthers Prediction
The Flyers will look to be more disciplined than the opener but still control possession at even strength, and Seattle doesn’t have the forwards to match them. Philadelphia is always looking for that elusive “comfortable” victory. This could well be one of them.
Prediction: Flyers 5, Kraken 2
