Flyers-Oilers Preview
There are four undefeated teams remaining in the NHL. In their last game, the Flyers fell to one of them, the Florida Panthers, 4-2. Tonight, they face another, in the 5-0-0 Edmonton Oilers. The oilers offense has been difficult to slow down, as they have 24 goals in the first five games.
However, Edmonton is coming off a four-day layoff. Sometimes rest is needed in a hockey season, but we bet if you asked any player in the Oilers locker room, they’d rather not have that much time off when they are playing at the top of their game this early in the season.
One would think the offense is being led by the usual suspects like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl – and they’d be right. McDavid has 13 points in five games and Draisaitl has 11. Which are off the page impressive.
But second to McDavid in goals scored is Zach Hyman, who has five goals in five games since joining Edmonton after spending his first six seasons in the NHL with Toronto where his career-high in goals for a season was 21.
Then there’s special teams, where both the Oilers and Flyers rank at the top of the league. Much has been made in Philadelphia of the stark turnaround of their power play, which is clicking at an incredible 36.4 percent. But that pales in comparison to the Oilers, who have scored on 41.7 percent of their chances with a man advantage.
With Mike Smith hurt, the goalie matchup will feature Flyers young stalwart Carter Hart against veteran Edmonton backup Mikko Koskinen.

Bets We Like with a Flyers Win
Flyers to lead after the first period (+210, BetMGM)
The Flyers have had good starts to each of their four games this season, have scored the first goal in three-of the four games and led after the first period in three of the four games. The only game they didn’t lead after the first period was the only one they lost in regulation – as they trailed Florida 1-0 and lost 4-2.
If the Flyers are going to hand Edmonton their first loss, they’ll need to be disciplined, and not give the Oilers chances on the power play, but even more importantly, jump on them early.
Edmonton has had a lead in four of their five games after one period and was tied in the other, but they didn’t score the first goal in two of the five, so they are susceptible to a slightly slower start.
Look for the Flyers to gain an early advantage in this one as they try to pull off the upset.

Yeah, you can bet on McDavid, or Draisaitl or even Hyman, if you think he can keep his hot streak going, but none of them give you as good odds as Nugent-Hopkins, who, by the way, has seven points in five games for the Oilers, and has amassed at least two points in a game three times.
If the Oilers are going to win, they’re going to have to put up some goals, since the Flyers will skate with them. And if they’re going to have to put up some goals, it’s going to require more than just the three aforementioned leaders.
Nugent-Hopkins is also due for a goal, as all seven of his points have been assists. If you think he will actually put the puck in the net, you can get him at +195 (Barstool Sportsbook).

Connor McDavid and Claude Giroux to combine for 2-plus goals (+240, DraftKings Sportsbook)
21+ and present in participating states. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.
This is a fun bet being offered by DraftKings as a TNT special, since this game is a national broadcast tonight. McDavid leads the league in scoring and Giroux has at least one point (three goals) in each Flyers game. Giroux doesn’t have a multi-goal game yet, but since he’s scored in 75% of the Flyers games so far, these are pretty good odds, especially with as unconscious as McDavid has been scoring so far. There’s really good value here.

Ryan Ellis should be back on defense for the Flyers, which will be a boost to their lineup against such a high-powered Edmonton team. Look for Hart to outduel Koskinen. It’ll be Hart’s second start in his hometown. He was pulled the last time he played there – which was two years ago. This time, he’ll look to impress family and friends and hand the Oilers their first loss.
Pick: We believe the Flyers prevail, 5-3
