You have to water and fertilize every day if you’re the Philadelphia Eagles. The roots are growing stronger, like a flower. And then, when you have a steady foundation, the plant bursts out of the ground and demolishes the Lions on the ground, to the tune of 236 yards and four scores.

Jason Kelce dropped a cheeky botanical reference in Sunday’s postgame victory speech:

“Keep them roots going,* baby. Roots on three! 1 2 3 roots!”

Love it. I’m happy that the players are going along with this. We could do gardening references all day. “Gardener” Minshew. A botanical beatdown, etc. The Eagles are 3-5 and hopefully they’re that huge bean stalk, reaching into the sky and to make this transitional season at least somewhat competitive and interesting.

*I thought he originally said “growing,” but I listened back a few times and it definitely sounds like “going.”
