Saw this on the feed and thought it was worth sharing.

Joe DeCamara is the midday host on 94 WIP, but before that he did nights solo at 97.5 (where he was pretty good, I actually like him better solo). And before that he was Assistant Program Director at the Fanatic. And BEFORE THAT, he was Howard Eskin’s producer at WIP.

It all started though with a letter to then-PD Tom Bigby (RIP), who DeCamara contacted in 2002, declaring that he would one day be a radio stud. Aka he called his shot, and WIP shared the letter on Twitter:

“I want you to remember my name.”

lol

Joe gets 4 million points for writing that. It takes massive stones to write something like that to the WIP Program Director. You are walking a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and sometimes it doesn’t always convey properly in print form. You might get laughed out of the park as the letter goes into the shredder, but you have to respect somebody who is assertive like that. Here’s “The Hammer,” at age 23, saying “fuck finance, I’m chasing my dream.” He’s attacking it like Nick Sirianni attacks the fundamentals. You gotta commend anybody who goes after it.

This is the same path followed by Kyle Scott, aka “The Maestro.” He said “screw it, I’m starting a blog,” and is now a legal sports betting and affiliate marketing guru. In a way, Kyle and Joe are the same person. They are intrinsically linked as Philadelphia sport media success stories.
