The Philadelphia Union had a fantastic 2021 season that was unfortunately cut short by COVID nonsense. Eleven of their guys were ruled out for the MLS Cup playoff semifinals, and so they had to roll out some dudes who barely played this year. Those guys busted their asses and played a good game, but ultimately lost 2-1 to eventual champions New York City FC.

On the latest episode of the IASIP podcast, head coach Jim Curtin returns to the program. We talk about the way the season ended and go over the strides the team has made in gaining Philadelphia market relevance. Later on, we discuss some tactical things, like the 2021 alteration to the high press and the installation of the 4-3-2-1 “Christmas Tree” formation to complement the team’s 4-4-2 diamond base.
