Earlier this week, it was reported that Eagles executives Catherine Raiche and Brandon Brown will be interviewing for the vacant Minnesota Vikings general manager job. Rick Spielman was canned after eight years. You probably remember him from the draft video where the Vikings were laughing at the Eagles for taking Jalen Reagor and leaving Justin Jefferson.

There are a handful of other names linked to the job as well.

Brown is the Eagles’ director of player personnel. He oversees the scouting department while “also doing crossover work on the college scouting side in collaboration with co-director of player personnel Ian Cunningham,” according to his bio on the Eagles website. He joined the organization as assistant director of pro scouting in 2017.

Raiche is the Vice President of Football Operations and is currently in her third year with the Birds. She was originally brought in as a player personnel coordinator for the football ops department back in 2019, and then was promoted this past offseason. Raiche previously served as assistant GM of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.

If either candidate is hired by the Vikings, the Eagles would get a pair of third round draft picks. This is part of the NFL’s “resolution JC-2A,” which was installed in November 2020. What it does is reward teams for developing minority candidates, and if one of these folks goes on to get a GM or head coaching job elsewhere, your team gets draft picks as a result.

The first instance of this resolution triggering was when the Detroit Lions hired Brad Holmes from the LA Rams. Los Angeles got third round selections in 2021 and 2022, and used that first pick on linebacker Ernest Jones out of South Carolina. There were actually four JC-2A picks in the 2021 draft, and they were:

  • 49ers – Ambry Thomas (via Robert Salah going to New York)*
  • Rams – Ernest Jones (via Holmes to Detroit)
  • Ravens – Brandon Stephens (via David Culley to Houston)
  • Broncos – Baron Browning (trade with New Orleans, who saw Terry Fontenot join Atlanta as GM)

It’s a new resolution, and you see how it comes into play. If Raiche or Brown end up getting that Vikings gig, the Eagles would receive their first JC-2A draft picks.

*the 49ers got another pick in 2023 as well, when Martin Mayhew was hired by WFT
