Jordan Bondurant over at Barrett Sports Media writes that PGA Tour radio host Mark Lye was fired over these remarks about the WNBA:

Hey different strokes for different folks. If you didn’t laugh out loud when Mark Lye said, “Is there a gun in the house, I’ll shoot myself,” you and I probably wouldn’t get along. That’s a laugh out loud line to say on a live mic in this day and age. It doesn’t matter that a majority of his listeners probably nodded their head in agreement. You can’t suggest self-murder every time Diana Taurasi brings the ball up on your TV screen.

My favorite part about these situations is watching companies squirm when they have to decide who goes and who stays when people rile up the public. Like if Stephen A said this, is there even a suspension? Mark Lye is a nobody. Easily replaceable. The original video didn’t even get 100k views on the same weekend everyone’s attention was on cancelling Joe Rogan and Sirius was like, “PEACE!”

So the guy doesn’t like watching ladies hoops. Guess who also doesn’t like watching the WNBA? Me. It’s hard to watch Joel Embiid Euro full speed on the break and almost bring the rim down and then watch 40 minutes of a WNBA game. But if I’m not paying attention and a WNBA game sneaks it’s way onto the TV I’m not looking to see if we have any flavored bleach. That’s reserved for Sixers Outsiders.
