Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni did their pre-draft media availability on Wednesday. Sirianni was filling in for Andy Weidl, who is sick:

Full transcript:

McLane: “To follow up on that, I’ve heard a lot of comparisons, and seen a lot of comparisons from this draft to 2013.”

Roseman, to himself: “That was a good draft.”

McLane: “You seem very sure about how you see the draft playing out..”

Roseman: “I’m not sure of anything, Jeff, to be honest with you.” (laughs)

McLane: “You were able to navigate that draft, which turned (out) in the long run not to be very strong. That ended up being one of your better drafts. How do you feel about that in relation to this draft?”

Roseman: “Definitely a back-handed compliment, appreciate that.”

McLane: (somewhat muddled) “…a total compliment.”

Love it. We’ve had a quirky Jeff McLane/Howie Roseman exchange, so now the NFL season can officially begin.

On a more serious note, for the life of me, I cannot remember how much influence Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman each had on the 2013 draft. That was the Lane Johnson/Zach Ertz draft. I need to go back and look at the reporting that came out later, but I’m pretty sure Howie was running this draft and had an unknown percentage of input from first-year Chip. This was well before Roseman was banished to storage closet B with Milton Waddams and his stapler, when Chip started making all of the personnel moves prior to his shit canning.

The Jeff/Howie dynamic is fantastic though. Ten years from now we need to sit these two down in a 1v1 setting and they can just let it all out. This might be an obscure reference, but there were two Premier League players who absolutely hated each other on the field, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira, then they got them at a table together years later to talk. Replace these two with Howie and Jeff:
