Brazilian Soccer Player was Demoted for Allegedly Farting and Laughing
Big news out of Lyon in the French soccer league.
From Julien Laurens at ESPN FC:
Brazilian defender Marcelo was dropped from the Lyon first team due to continuous farting and laughing in the dressing room, sources have told ESPN.
As ESPN reported in August, the 34-year-old was expelled from the senior squad following Lyon’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Angers.
Marcelo was caught laughing during captain Leo Dubois’ speech to rally the troops following the game, which didn’t go down well with manager Peter Bosz and sporting director Juninho.
However, according to ESPN sources, Marcelo was also disciplined by the club for repeatedly farting among his teammates in the dressing room and laughing in the presence of Juninho and Bosz.
I looked up “fart” in French and Google Translate tells me that the word they use is “pet.” That can’t be right, can it? Apparently “sorry I farted” translates to “désolé j’ai pété,” so keep that handy for your next bout of Parisian flatulence.
Not sure about your high school experience, but if members of the 2002 Boyertown soccer team were benched for farting and laughing, we wouldn’t have had enough players to field a starting eleven. We would have likely forfeited to Fleetwood, Governor Mifflin, Exeter, or whoever we were matched up against back then. Shout out Berks County.
But when you go over this entire story it seems like Lyon folks were offended that the guy wasn’t being serious and wasn’t focused, which is understandable. Lyon finished 4th last year and they’re 8th in the French league right now, which is very poor for them. They once won the title seven years in a row or something like that. They had this dude named Juninho who hit free kicks like a wizard. He was sick.
As a random aside here, did you know that Lyon is the “gastronomic capital” of the world? Apparently they have the best food in the world over there. Move over, Emeril. Bam!
