I’m at the park tonight and will have a game story later. I’ll be sure to write about how the Braves scored their first run of the night, but I think the play warrants its own post.

After the Braves loaded the bases to start the second inning with two bloopers and a swinging bunt, Aaron Nola struck out Adam Duvall to record the first out.

He then got Braves second baseman Orlando Arcia to bounce into what looked like an easy 4-6-3 double play.

One problem. Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius didn’t know how many outs there were. Instead of turning the inning-ending double play, Gregorius instead pocketed the ball, allowing the first run of the night to score.

Players have been benched for less, but given the Phillies’ current depth issues and desperate need for a win, he stayed in the game.

To his credit, he quickly rewarded Rob Thomson’s forgiveness by doubling in the bottom of the inning, helping the Phillies to a huge seven-run rally.

So what we have here is a true redemption story, I guess.
