It seems like there are a bazillion potato chip flavors these days, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but now there are three more right here stemming from a contest run by Herr’s:

Wow, okay, there’s a lot to digest here, so let’s go to the website for descriptions:

215 Special Sauce

“In corner stores across Philly, the most popular condiment request is the delicious mixture of salt, pepper, ketchup, and hot sauce. The taste is so good there have even been songs written about it. This bold blend of flavors is truly a special part of the 215!

The 215 Special Sauce chip is the perfect blend of tangy, vinegar and savory flavors with a hint of heat. This chip has something special for everyone just like its namesake, Philadelphia.”

Long Hots & Sharp Provolone

“When people think of Philly, they think of hoagies. No hoagie in Philly, especially our beloved roast pork, is complete without sharp provolone and Italian long hots on top of it. It is a staple in the South Philly community and Italian markets throughout the city. Visitors would be wise to follow along.

The Italian Long Hots and Sharp Provolone chip delivers a bold roasted pepper flavor combined with notes of provolone cheese in the background with a mild heat that builds with each chip. The flavors complement each other perfectly which is one thing everyone in Philly can agree with.”

Wiz Wit

“My favorite memories from my childhood involve spending time with my Dad driving in his classic car to find the best cheesesteak spot in Philly. Of course, the food was amazing, but the memories from those weekend pursuits will last forever.

The Wiz Wit chip is drenched in delicious cheesy onion flavor with a bit of meat to match the cheesy goodness that oozes out of the back of your roll after your first bite. Nothing compares to that taste just like nothing compares to a Wiz Wit cheesesteak from Philly.”

I think I’m leaning towards the Long Hots and Sharp Provolone potato chip. We’ll have to get “Provolone Joe”, who I think calls the Anthony Gargano show, to down an entire basket of these and tell us what he thinks. Whichever potato chip wins, it should get custom packaging with Mike Quick on the bag.

There were 6,200 submissions, and here were some flavors that did not make the final three:

  • South Philly Swamp Ass
  • Flamin’ Hot Pot Hole
  • Wavy Broken Water Main
  • Arctic Splash
  • Sour Cream and Safe Injection Site
  • Schuylkill River Water
  • Musty Mummers
  • Bridesburg Body Odor
  • Kensington Kettle Cooked
  • Veterans Stadium Vinegar
  • Simply Strawberry Mansion Sea Salt
  • Montco Mesquite

On a more serious note, you can vote here, and the winner gets $10,000 plus another $10,000 for a charity of their choice.
