From Keith Pompey at the Inquirer:

(Daryl Morey) is pursuing former Houston power forward P.J. Tucker, league sources confirm. Sources have also said the Sixers are looking to make a three-team trade that could involve Matisse Thybulle and the No. 23 pick to create space. Sources have said the Sixers are attempting to trade Tobias Harris, but they are having a tough time getting teams to take on his lucrative contract.

But it became public on Monday that Tucker would opt out of his $7.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season with the Miami Heat to become a free agent. Multiple sources have the Sixers intending to offer him a three-year, $30 million contract. Time will tell what will happen. But a source added that there’s mutual interest between Tucker, 37, and the Sixers.

Three years and $30 million for P.J. Tucker (allegedly)? Holy shit! I love P.J. Tucker because he’s a dog, and would be a perfect fit on this Sixers team, but that type of contract (reportedly) for a 37-year-old role player would be banana land.

Couple of other things here:

Matisse Thybulle will hit the cap around $4.3 million this season. Furkan Korkmaz will make $5 million and Danny Green has the non-guarantee $10 million. That’s where your wiggle room behind James Harden and Joel Embiid comes from, assuming they can’t find a Tobias Harris taker.

The Sixers don’t currently have the cap space to sign Tucker, but can always wheel and deal before the free agency period begins on June 30th. They’ve also been linked to Eric Gordon.
