The Phillies acquired Noah Syndergaard at the trade deadline and the guy has already posted some doozies on social media. Looks like he was itchy to get out of Anaheim and play in a city that actually cares about baseball.

It took him about 5 seconds to throw up a new Twitter header with the Always Sunny cast and change his avatar to this:

Here’s a throwback to when he stole the Phanatic’s ATV and went for a ride:

And here’s a quality burn:

I dig all of it. There’s a fine line between pandering and genuine excitement, and I feel like we’ve got the latter here. Syndergaard is back in the NL East and playing meaningful baseball for a playoff contender. The Angels are 44-59 and will miss the postseason again despite Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout doing whatever amazing things they’re doing on a nightly basis. It’s just a goofy thing out there. “Ohtani threw ten strikeouts and hit for the cycle. Trout improved his OPS to 2.067 as the Angels lose again, 9 to 3.

Syndergaard isn’t the guy we saw early on in his Mets career, but if you remove the couple of times he was shellacked this year, his numbers are pretty good. His fastball is down a few MPH, but he’s more than serviceable, and the Phillies really needed starting pitching. They had a good trade deadline. No blockbusters, but they moved out guys who weren’t contributing and brought in guys who will contribute. They also DFA’d Herrera and Familia, which would have made the deadline a success even if they did nothing else.
