San Diego Padres Adding Juan Soto AND Josh Bell (update)
MLB trade deadline.
Everybody else may now proceed with their moves because the Juan Soto log jam has been dislodged:
Sources: #Padres and #Nationals have agreed in principle on a Juan Soto trade, with Josh Bell also going to San Diego. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Blockbuster. They got Soto AND Josh Bell, who is hitting .301 and having his best year at the plate since he was a 2019 All Star in Pittsburgh.
We’ll get the rest of the trade details soon, but for the Phillies this makes things a little tighter in the Wild Card race. They’re currently two games behind San Diego, and the thought of jumping the Padres and getting closer to the Braves might be a pipe dream now. Maybe they wouldn’t have caught the pre-deadline Padres anyway, and St. Louis is the bigger concern just one game back, but you’re now looking at smaller postseason margins here, assuming San Diego really takes off with Soto, Bell, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr. coming back from that wrist injury.
On a positive note, at least we don’t have to see Soto in the division any longer.
EDIT –
Passan with more details:

EDIT 2 –
Eric Hosmer has been notified he’s in the agreed-upon deal. He has a no-trade and hasn’t consented yet. Belief is they will figure this out however, one way or another.

lol if Hosmer blows up the deal
