German industrial/metal act Rammstein is playing Lincoln Financial Field next week. It’s part of a rescheduled North American stadium tour that also includes stops at Soldier Field, MetLife, Gillette, etc.

It was kind of crazy to see these dates announced in the first place. I was thinking to myself, “wow, surely Rammstein isn’t big enough to play the Linc, right?” Don’t get me wrong, they are massive in Europe, and sell out huge stadiums over there, but I saw them in 2001 at the Electric Factor (capacity 2,500) and then they opened for Slipknot and System of a Down in 2002 at the Spectrum. They grew big enough to play a “half full” Wells Fargo Center in 2012, which was ideal for their complicated pyro setup, but the Linc feels like a huge step forward considering that the WFC wasn’t sold out 10 years ago.

Maybe you’ve also heard the frequent commercials on the radio, which suggests to me that ticket sales aren’t great, and when you go to the Ticketmaster site, there are thousands of tickets still available, some going for 20 bucks:

All of those dark blue areas have 100+ tickets available, except for sections 104-106, which are in the 70 remaining range. The light blue is ~50 remaining and the gray sold out. I wouldn’t expect the entire stadium to be full anyway, but they should be able to finish the lower bowl, you would hope.

It just feels so out of place for Rammstein to playing in the same stadium as the Philadelphia Eagles, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay. Kenney Chesney played this summer and Foo Fighters were supposed to, but the show got cancelled (RIP Taylor Hawkins).

Anyway, maybe we grab some buddies and go down next Wednesday. Beers on me. Du Hast!
