Former Eagle and future Hall of Famer Jason Peters signed with the Cowboys on Sunday as a depth piece to back-up Tyler Smith, since Tyron Smith won’t be back until December due to injury. This is four years after he called the Cowboys “arrogant” –

Peters was asked about that quote on Sunday:

Translation: I hated the Cowboys until Jerry dangled a couple mil in front of me just to sit on the sidelines.

Do I think Jason Peters is some Benedict Arnold for this move? No. The guy gave us the best football of his career.  Eight of his 11 seasons saw him become a 4x All-Pro and 7x Pro Bowler. He has a Super Bowl and became “The Bodyguard” after he took on all of Washington after this cheap shot on Nick Foles:

Also, if he is starting at left tackle by the time the Eagles face the Cowboys in Week 6, that can only benefit us. Even if graded out pretty well for his age according to PFF.

I just can’t wrap my head around why he still wants to play. He’s 40 years old playing one of the most grueling positions in football after having a Hall of Fame career where he made $117 million. I can’t imagine it’s easy or exciting to get out of bed in the morning at this age, going to practice every day, and sitting in meetings. Is he broke? Is he chasing a ring since he was injured during the Birds’ run? If he was ring chasing, signing with the Bears last year doesn’t make a lot of sense. But it honestly seems like a guy who still loves to be around the game, as he told SiriusXM:

“Looking for an upcoming offensive line, good team — or a playoff team. Either/or is good for me, because I can pass my torch on to some guys who are trying to get better, the younger guys, the new generation. Or if I get on a team with some vets, they already know how I rock, and we can just go into the playoffs and make a run and try to win another ring.

“But right now, either way is good for me because I can teach or I can sit back and listen and learn from other veterans who have played this game, too. So either way is good.”

Good for him. I’d be on a beach somewhere after the second $40+ million deal ended in 2018.
