Nick Sirianni did his Monday press conference.

First question – why didn’t Jordan Davis play more, and was there a correlation to shitty run defense and a lack of five-man fronts? –

“We have a rotation obviously that we feel good about. …that was a rotation where sometimes they’re gonna get different reps, kind of similar to a wide receiver and how many balls they get in certain games. It just so happened to play out a little bit that way with Jordan yesterday. Those guys are good players and we’re deep at that position (DT), so we want to try get as many of those guys as many reps as we possibly can. That’s the way numbers shook out.

As far as the correlation between the way they ran it, and him, I don’t think there was any correlation to that. There’s no doubt we have to do a better job in the run game as far as our defense and we’ve been working like crazy to do that today.

There are different reasons for why a play is successful. You can look at the numbers and see what they say. We’re discussing every defense individually and seeing what we do. Whenever we were calling a play we were doing what we felt was best for the team in that particular moment. We’ll see what we feel like our best defenses are against the run. When we had a big lead there we felt (Detroit) could be a little more one-dimensional and they did a good job of still keeping to their offense. We were up 17 twice, on two different occasions there, and some teams get a little more one-dimensional at times and they kept it balanced. There was a 3rd and 11, down 17, and they ran the ball. Hats off to them, takes some guts to do that and they executed it. A little bit of that comes down to the situation you’re playing and trying to make educated guesses on what you think the offense and defense is gonna do.”

Alright, a little bit of word salad in there, but he’s mainly just going with the “rotation” thing. We’ll see what Jonathan Gannon has to say later this week, but it’s pretty obvious that Davis is a big run stuffer and the data shows that they were better against the run when he was in there:

Could be conditioning, could be a rotation, could be poor coaching, etc. It’s the big week 1 topic!
