From Thursday’s press conference with Nick Sirianni:

Q. What was the explanation behind when LB Davion Taylor was cut?(Jeff McLane)

NICK SIRIANNI: It was a numbers thing. That’s really what it comes down to.

Q. You still have a spot, though?(Jeff McLane)

NICK SIRIANNI: We still have a spot. We’re still working on completing the roster, but a numbers thing as far as — and there are things obviously that are being worked on right now that you guys don’t know about, and we’re obviously going to keep that low. But it was just a numbers thing where we were, and we still want Davion to be a part of this organization. We’ll see what happens.

He’s done some good things and made some good plays for us. Hopefully, that’s not the last time we work with him.

As it stands, the Birds roster sits at 52 players. They waived Davion Taylor, claimed Ian Book, and then traded Jalen Reagor, so there’s an open spot. They could simply elevate someone from within (maybe a punt returner candidate), but Sirianni saying that part in bold suggests that something external is going down. Right? The way he phrased that makes it sound like another trade or outside claim is coming soon. Maybe a running back?

EDIT – they did add Perine to the practice squad, FWIW:
