Harry Kalas, Merrill Reese, Marc Zumoff, and maybe now Scott Franzke? –

Franzke has had his share of badass calls this postseason. He’s always been well-liked and a consummate pro, but it’s almost like this run is launching him into the upper echelon of Philly sports broadcasters, right up there with the guys I mentioned at the top of the story.

This is actually a pretty good poll question. Better than anything the WIP morning show will come up with. Is Scott Franzke a Tier 1 Philly broadcaster now? I’m sure a lot of people would say he already was, but we never mentioned him in the same breath as Gene Hart, Richie Ashburn, and the like. Is he up there with Mike Quick and Jim Jackson? These are good questions to ask!

By the way, I’ve always respected Franzke’s soul patch. He looks like a low-key grunge fan. He’s a Texas native but member of Generation X, so you know he definitely saw Mudhoney when they came through Dallas back in the 90s. I’m willing to bet Franzke is a huge Pearl Jam fan. If I’m wrong, that would be disappointing.
