This leaked a long time ago, but here are a couple of hi-res images of the Sixers’ new City Edition uniforms for 2022-2023:

Pagan thinks these jerseys stink, but now that we have a pic of one of the players wearing the uniform, with the official sponsor patch and not the knock-off version, I personally don’t think they’re horrible. The messaging behind these is that they’re supposed to pay tribute to all levels of basketball in the Philadelphia region, hence “City of Brotherly Love” written on the front. Past iterations of the City Edition uniforms always had some sort of generic reference to Philadelphia on the chest, though the imagery differed from year to year.

Anyway, the Sixers can wear whatever the hell they want if they continue to play like they did against the Suns the other night. They can go out wearing wife beaters and jorts if they’re gonna hold the opponent to 88 points and shoot 26-31 from the charity stripe.

Here’s the full press release:

PHILADELPHIA – NOV. 10, 2022 – The Philadelphia 76ers unveiled today its 2022-23 Nike NBA City Edition uniform, presented in partnership with Official Jersey Patch Partner, Crypto.com. The uniform, inspired by the Greek translation of Philadelphia – City of Brotherly Love – represents the rich history of basketball in the city. It marks the first time in team history that City of Brotherly Love lives across the chest of the jersey.

“There is so much history to be celebrated in our city, including the impact Philadelphia’s players, coaches and teams have had on the origin and evolution of the game of basketball,” said Philadelphia 76ers Executive Advisor Sonny Hill, who is also a basketball historian within the city. “The legends of basketball here laid the foundation for the modern game we’ve all come to love and cherish – not just the physical aspect of the game, but the knowledge, history, context, and the great traditions. These uniforms represent the past, the present and the future of the game in our City of Brotherly Love.”

In addition to having City of Brotherly Love across the chest, the uniform features a timeless base-white color with minimalistic details and trim designed to match the raw and retro look celebrated in the past across all leagues and levels of play. The look is completed by the recognizable Circle of Stars logo on the waistband and a bicentennial inspired “76” on the shorts.

The new uniform follows last season’s incredibly successful City Edition uniform, which paid tribute to the team’s former home, the Spectrum, and the many great basketball moments that occurred at the legendary South Philadelphia arena.
