Noted soccer and college basketball writer Grant Wahl died last week while covering the World Cup in Qatar.

His wife, a doctor, went on CBS Mornings and said the cause of death is a ruptured aortic aneurysm:

Let’s go back to what I wrote in the other Grant story:

“Sadly, none of this matters, because people will jump to their own conclusions, if they already have not. The people who think he was murdered will continue to think he was murdered. The people who think he died because of the vaccine will continue to think that. Meantime, people will dispute whatever the autopsy says because Wahl died overseas, despite reports that U.S. consular officials had custody of his body in Doha. If further study reveals something informative, skeptics will just throw their hands in the air and call it fake news.”

Let’s test my theory by going through some of the responses to the above tweet:

Now we wouldn’t normally put a lot of stock into what “Socialist Avocado” says on Twitter, which reminds me of the time Bob defeated a BLT sandwich in a baseball argument. But it’s shitty that this guy hadn’t even been dead for 24 hours before people started going on and on about COVID vaccines, about the Qatari regime murdering him, and offering other assorted knee-jerk reactions. Grant’s brother is not without blame here either, as he came out immediately and suggested that the Qataris were responsible for this, which was later proven to be not true. There was no foul play involved.

I don’t know what the point of this post is other than to say that people have become so distrustful of medicine, science, and the media, that we’ve now found ourselves at an all-time low point for reasonable and respectful discourse. I blame Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, CNN, Donald Trump, and the fake news mainstream media (only half joking here). We need more fair and balanced journalism outlets, like Crossing Broad (also only half joking here).
