One of the Best Football Players in PA is Missing the State Championship Because of a Bush League Ejection
Neumann Goretti plays Belle Vernon for State this weekend in the 3A title game, but will be missing their three-star RB/CB Shawn Battle because he was ejected in the semi-finals after “throwing a punch.” The “punch” happened after a player on Wyomissing player tackled Battle and Helen Hunt’ed his nuts:
This Saturday one of the best players in the state – Shawn Battle – won’t play in the 3-A @PIAASports title game because of a punch. He got tossed and is ineligible. He reacted after being grabbed where no man should be. Do you see a punch? pic.twitter.com/4NszcDVJ3T

What the fuck is the PIAA looking at? Big #51 has better ball security than Carson Wentz. I think you gotta commend Battle for handling that better than a lot of people would. I know nut twisting and eye gouging goes on under a pile, but for it to be this blatant and the PIAA not willing to overturn it as Neumann is looking for their first state title is bogus. Don’t let the state title game and these kid’s legacy be determined over a bunch of board members who got cut from JV.
Even the head coach from a Catholic League rival is jumping in to defend Battle:

You know the PIAA didn’t overturn it because they’re tired of the PCL dominating the state playoffs. St. Joes Prep has ripped off six of the last nine state titles in football. Archbishop Wood had their run. LaSalle and West Catholic have each won one in the last 10 years. That’s even before we get into Roman and Neumann dominating basketball once the PIAA finally let the PCL compete. Just admit that the other side of PA is little brother.
