After several days of suspense (not really), WIP made the “major announcement” they’ve been teasing on the Delaware Valley airwaves. Joe Giglio is moving to the midday show, replacing Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie, who are replacing the retiring Angelo Cataldi. His co-host will be former Philadelphia Eagle Hugh Douglas, who had been working in Atlanta radio.

This was the rumor going around for a few weeks/months now, ever since the entire midday team was moved to mornings. Jeff Blumenthal at the Philadelphia Business Journal first reported that Douglas was in consideration for the gig.

Here’s the audio of the announcement:

I think this makes a lot of sense for WIP. They are promoting from within, and basically just elevated two shows to make up for Angelo’s retirement, then brought Hugh back to Philadelphia to fill out the lineup. It also ensures that every single day part at WIP has a former Eagle involved, which seems to be some sort of unspoken requirement at WIP, yeah? Maybe they should rename the station “Eagles Radio 94 WIP.” I’m sure how strong Hugh is with basketball, baseball, and hockey.

Your new 94 WIP dayside lineup looks like this:

  • morning show: Joe DeCamara, Jon Ritchie, James Seltzer, Rhea Hughes, Devan Kaney, Joe Weachter
  • middays: Joe Giglio and Hugh Douglas
  • afternoon: Marks and Reese (Marks currently in contract negotiations)

Joe and Hugh will start after the Eagles season ends, which is when Angelo is finally departing. They’ll go up against Cuz and Choonis at 97.5 the Fanatic. The next order of business for WIP will be sorting out Johnny Marks’ contract and then replacing Giglio on the 6 p.m. shift.

Now let’s get it back to the Eagles. Chuck from Mount Airy is up next.
