This is a Pretty Wild Eagles/Cowboys Quarterback Nugget
Mike tweeted this on Monday, before the Jalen Hurts injury news:
Last 6 Eagles-Cowboys QB matchups have not featured the same 2 guys in a game. Saturday should end that streak.
2019: Wentz/Dak
2020: Wentz/DiNucci
2020: Hurts/Dalton
2021: Hurts/Dak
2021: Minshew/Dak
2022: Hurts/Rush— Mike Mulhern (@MikeyMuls) December 19, 2022
Great stat, and it looks like the multi-year streak will finally end on Saturday with Gardner Minshew facing Dak Prescott. That’s absolutely wild if you think about it. We’re looking at seven straight Cowboys/Eagles games featuring six different quarterback combinations.
Some footnotes here:
- 2019 Wentz/Dak – this was an October game with both starters healthy
- 2020: Wentz/DiNucci – Dak ankle injury
- 2020: Hurts/Dalton – Dak ankle injury, Wentz benched
- 2021: Hurts/Dak – both starters healthy in week 3
- 2021: Minshew/Dak – Jalen Hurts rested ahead of playoffs
- 2022: Hurts/Rush – Dak thumb injury
- 2022: Minshew/Dak? – Jalen Hurts with a sprained throwing shoulder
Pretty weird. Only three times in the last seven meetings have both starting quarterbacks been healthy, and one of those games was in week 17, so the Birds rested Jalen Hurts. Otherwise, there have been ankle, thumb, and shoulder injuries, plus a benching, preventing us from seeing the QB1s go against each other.
One other thing – is Jalen Hurts worth a full touchdown point swing in this game? That’s incredible. That’s how much the line moved just before the injury news went public.
