Some RADIO WARS news here from Rob Tornoe at the Inquirer:

“Longtime 94.1 WIP morning show host Angelo Cataldi is leaving the station the week after the Eagles’ season ends, but his longtime cohost Al Morganti is sticking around.

Morganti, who has been a fixture at WIP since the early 1990s, signed a new deal that will keep him on the radio for the next five years, which even he thought was optimistic.”

Tornoe mentions that Morganti will host a weekend shift and do “a new podcast centered around the Flyers.”

That should answer the nonstop questions of “what happens to Morganti when Angelo retires?” I think we got that question more than anything over the last three months, and didn’t have an answer because it was never really articulated on the WIP morning show. Rhea Hughes remains under contract and will continue with the new DeCamara/Ritchie show, but obviously now Morganti will not continue from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

I actually like the idea of Morganti doing weekends. Those shows are straightforward sports talk without Angelo’s bloviating bullshit. They’ve always had veteran guys like Glen/Ray/Rickie/Jolly/Rob Ellis/etc do Saturdays and Sundays, which are low on shtick and high on institutional knowledge. I’m curious to see how Morganti does in this role. It’s definitely a departure from the halcyon days of Wing Bowl and complaining about Andy Reid.

The one slot WIP still has to fill is evenings, the Joe Giglio shift soon to be vacated by his midday move. I wouldn’t expect that announcement to come right away. They still have several weeks of the current lineup before Angelo departs, which could even run into February if the Eagles go to the Super Bowl.
