Dietz and Watson is giving away free Bird Dogs around the city for as long as the Eagles are in the playoffs:

What is a Bird Dog? From Dietzandwatson.com:

To show our love of the Birds and feed our hometown fans, we’ve created Bird Dogs–delicious Dietz & Watson beef franks topped with chopped long hots, provolone, and crunchy fried onions, served in an Eagles green bun from Philly legends, Cacia’s Bakery. There’s even a Spicy Cheddar option for fans who want a little more fire.

As the resident hot dog guy here at Crossing Broad, this has my name written all over it. There are two rules I live by. Don’t talk to strangers and never refuse a free hot dog. I love the idea of provolone and crunchy fried onions on my dog. This city though has a long hot problem. When did long hots get so popular they needed to be added to everything? Italian Hoagies, pizza, cheesesteaks, chicken cutlet, everything. To me it makes no sense that not every long hot is spicy. You’re either chewing on a soggy pepper or you get the one with 10 chili seeds and you’re gasping for air for the next 20 minutes. Call me crazy, but I don’t feel like playing Russian Roulette with my food.

Anyway here are the food truck locations for the next week. I’m surprised Penn is letting a local business set up shop near its campus. It was probably Drexel’s call. I’m sure if Penn had the chance they’d rather support a deli from State College:

P.S. Take note John Middleton. A small business can give away free hot dogs for the next month and we can’t get a Dollar Dog Night on a Friday.
