When Cowboys Lose in the Playoffs, They Can Blame it on the Grass

The Cowboys lost to the Commanders on Sunday to finish 12-5 on the season. Now we’re talking about playing surfaces:

That quote is from former Dallas coach Jason Garrett, sourced to the NBC pregame show. Funny enough, the Cowboys, who have fake fans, seem to play better on a fake surface. It all makes sense!

Turf stinks but it is indeed faster, and it’s a consistent surface. There aren’t any divots or weak spots, unless we’re talking about the Eagles/Ravens preseason game they abandoned because the Vet turf pulled up easier than your grandmother’s 50-year-old low-pile carpet.

The Eagles only lost three games all season long, two of which were at home, so that’s two on hybrid grass and one on the Dallas turf. They did, however, hang 27 on the Cowboys with their backup quarterback, so not sure playing surface is all that impactful. For what it’s worth, four NFC playoff teams have turf (Seattle, New York, Minnesota, and Dallas), while San Fran, Philly, and Tampa play on grass and the Super Bowl will be played on grass.
