We’ve talked about the Kadarius Toney touchdown in Super Bowl 57 quite a bit on the site and on Crossing Broadcast, about the concept of replacing the safety with a cornerback and trying to handle pre-snap motion, but it’s not every day you have an NFL player on the show to help with film.

Here’s former Carolina Panther and Temple Owl Colin Thompson on what he saw from the Eagles defense in Super Bowl 52, plus a breakdown of that play specifically:

It’s all very interesting. My take is that Super Bowl 57 was Super Bowl 52 without the strip sack. The Eagles got cooked by a generational coach and quarterback combination in both of those games, the only difference being a key takeaway in 2018. That big play never happened in this game, and the Eagles lost by three.

That’s why the Jonathan Gannon blame feels like it’s a little over the top. He didn’t have a great game, but the players didn’t make a single play and the Chiefs offense was awesome. It is what it is.
