HUGE NEWS out of South Jersey! Cape May is acquiring the assets of Flying Fish via a press release:

We are excited to announce our plans to acquire the assets of fellow New Jersey craft brewer, Flying Fish Brewing Company. This acquisition represents the union of our two brands – ones that charted the course for craft brewing in New Jersey with a shared foundation of entrepreneurial spirit, strong local pride, passion for innovation, and a deep appreciation for brand fans.

The acquisition is a strategic investment for us and will significantly increase our company’s manufacturing and warehousing space; boost annual production capacity; and add manufacturing capabilities to support the expansion of our product portfolio.

Crazy. Flying Fish used to be the staple in the craft beer scene out of New Jersey. They couldn’t miss a decade ago. I used to work at a bar where we had the Abbey Dubbel, Exit 4 and 11, the IPA, and Red Fish all on tap at once. But I feel like we haven’t heard anything about Flying Fish since they closed their Crafthouse in Brewerytown back in 2017.

Cape May Brewing on the other hand hasn’t looked back and you could argue is the craft beer of choice down the shore. Tan Limes and the flagship IPA are like MJ and Scottie Pippen. You have the Cape May White that’s smooth like Tony Kukoc. Then you have the Coastal Evacuation Double IPA that’s like Dennis Rodman ready to give you a punch in the mouth. They’ll surprise you with collabs like the Shore Tea as well.

From what I gathered from the press release it seems like Flying Fish will still release beer and Cape May Brewing will increase their manufacturing and production. The rare win win. Let Cape May handle the beer and get Flying Fish back to being one of the greats and let Flying Fish help Cape May expand their footprint from sea to shining sea.

35 days til we’re crushing beers down in your favorite shore town. We can do this.
