Glen Macnow joined us on Crossing Broadcast Tuesday for a wide-ranging discussion on sports talk radio and the local media scene, among other topics.

One of the things he detailed was Ray Didinger’s retirement, and the process that brought Mike Sielski and Jody Mac to the popular 94 WIP weekend show:

Macnow:

“…Ray retired earlier than I thought. I thought Ray was going to stay at least another year, and then he’s out and it was ‘I guess I’m not ready to retire.’ So Rod (Lakin) came to me and said ‘what do you want want to do?’ I said, ‘well I’m not ready to retire’ and he said ‘good,’ he said ‘it’s your show, you tell me who you want to work with and we’ll try to make it work.’ That’s the way it happened. I especially appreciate it because Jody’s been on the payroll and was a part-timer for a while, but Mike was not. And you know guys, with any company these days, anywhere, bringing in a new guy who hadn’t been there, it’s always a challenge running it up the corporate ladder. Rod didn’t resist that idea at all. We went out to lunch with Mike and talked about it all and it was great. They gave me the opportunity to find people who I thought would be good.”

WIP was deferential in this case, which is a good thing. You don’t often get the benefit of the doubt when you’re in that position, so for Glen to essentially steer the process himself is cool to see.

We talked about a ton of things on the show and even got into the Angelo Cataldi stuff a bit. Here’s the full episode:
