As Expected, the Sports Complex was an Absolute Shit Show of Traffic and Congestion
It’s a shit show down in South Philly on Tuesday night. Lisa Fairfax is working overtime on the 2’s. Between the Flyers game, Mexico vs. Germany friendly, and Game 2 of the NLCS, the lots are full and the cops had to close the ramps to the sports complex on 95:

It’s a shame you can see a lot of cars still on 76 trying to get off the exit for Citizens Bank Park.
But apparently all of the lots are completely full with 3 events pic.twitter.com/OkOHIgjr9g— John Clark (@JClarkNBCS) October 18, 2023
People with tickets were stuck in traffic outside the stadium.
Whoever decided the Phillies game should begin at 8pm in the baseball stadium when there was already an 8pm International soccer match across the street at the football stadium ought to have their head examined.@MLBplayersMLB #philly #traffic pic.twitter.com/EVf3SkEjed

Apparently the best way to neutralize the Phillies home field advantage is a scheduling coordinator. Absolute madness traffic wise trying to get to CBP. 40 minute drive is now at 2 and a half hours

Coming to you live from my dads car on Broad and Packer. It is embarrassing that there is a soccer game that ultimately doesn’t matter that is creating all this traffic. The “friendly” should have been cancelled when the NLCS schedule came out. What a joke

Traffic is so bad outside of the sports complex, people are upset they will miss the games! I’m trying to leave (to get back to work) and have been in same spot for 45 minutes. Stay safe!

Holy shit, traffic down in the South Philly looks like a complete shit show! pic.twitter.com/r4XPuua1Nn

Not even Mexico and Germany were able to get to the game on time so they had to push back the start:
Just announced: Mexico-Germany kickoff is delayed until 8:15 because the teams got stuck in traffic getting to the stadium.#ElTriEng

There’s so much traffic people were stuck at the airport:
@PhiladelphiaGov I wonder who is going to take responsibility for the absolute logistical nightmare of the Flyers, Phillies, and Mexico tour? The traffic has spilled out so badly that people have been trapped at the airport for well over an hour now

Of course immediately people are going to be say, “You should’ve left early.” Sure. But people have jobs they can’t leave early, maybe they need to get kids off the bus, or pick up a family member back home who can’t drive. If that’s not you and you’re stuck in traffic I don’t feel bad for you. Like this guy:
I really had tickets to go to the Phillies tonight and the traffic was so crazy I had to chalk it and not even go. Left my house at 6:45 and was sitting in traffic until I gave up 10 minutes ago lol. My life

6:45? This guy might be the dumbest human on the face of the planet. I could live on Oregon Ave. and I’d leave before 6:45.
I get people have lives. Though I think you can argue that when 125,000 people are descending on a place at one time you should have a plan to give you enough time or sell the tickets. Like if I was in the suburbs and I couldn’t leave my house by 5 p.m. at the latest I’m selling those tickets and using that money to grab some at a later date.
Really all I want to know is who the hell was in charge of scheduling Mexico/Germany in the middle of October. I understand the Phillies being in the NLCS wasn’t a given, but that’s beside the point. There’s soccer tonight, Temple football on Friday, and an Eagles game on Sunday all at the Linc. That field is going to look so dead Nick Castellanos is going to home run after it flat lines. Unless the Eagles grounds crew is trying to slow down the Dolphins offense, then I say ches,s not checkers.
