Jay Glazer and Rap Sheet with Sunday afternoon bombshells:

Crazy, right?

We had a tipster send an email Saturday about this, and they explained the situation this way:

“Apparently the Eagles are trying to force (Desai’s) resignation and are having Matt Patricia call the defense. Eagles don’t want to fire him so they can save face/not have to pay the rest of his four year deal and he is obviously not doing that.

He is not even sitting in on team meetings this week and will be “coaching” from the booth on Monday night.”

Now, Glazer’s tweet says “Desai remains with the team in different capacity but Patricia now runs and calls the defense.” Nothing mentioned specifically about team meetings or asking for a resignation. Tipster makes it sound like they’re just sticking Desai upstairs for the time being, but we’ll probably get further elaboration from the national insiders. Tipster mentions Desai’s contract-length, so I’ll go back through old stories and try to corroborate.

For what it’s worth, Kevin Byard did downplay the story about the secondary handling this week’s scouting report:

Still, this is incredible. Demoting a defensive coordinator in the middle of a 10-3 season? That is unheard of in the NFL, or any sport really. Things must have been REALLY bad behind the scenes for this to happen. And I see people doing the conspiracy theories about Darius Slay being out the same week Matt Patricia takes over the defense. I see you.
