This week’s Men At Work (subscribe, like, share) visits an estate sale on the Main Line to figure out what people who go to these things do for a living. Why did I pick the Main Line for my first estate sale? Because I knew I wouldn’t have to interview any Villanova fans, of course. They stick their noses up at consignment and hand-me-downs. I’ll be honest, originally I was worried we were going to some person’s two story coffin or a broken home ruined by unpaid taxes. It turns out the people are just downsizing so it takes the rotten stench (not really it smelt like old people in the entire place) out of it. John, who runs the sale, told us a bunch of stories over his two decades in business and how TikTok has helped him grow. We also talk to a financial advisor who blamed young people for not being able to afford houses, a woman who didn’t want to be filmed but sat down anyway, a nurse who tells us about healthcare’s biggest problem, and we help a college student get an A on her project:

Shout out to John from SalesByHelen.com letting us come through to record at the place. If you’re looking for an estate sale in the Philly area or just want to shop some beautiful art, vintage furniture and clothes, or anything else check their site out (not an ad).

If you’re unfamiliar with my new pod, Men At Work, here’s the layman’s terms. We set up a table somewhere with mics and get random people to join and tell us what they do for a living. Then the conversation just goes from there. My co-host Matt Peoples and I thought this was a good idea for a podcast because society identifies so much with their job or what they want it to be. I’ve also found that there are a lot of interesting people in the Philly area and beyond with interesting jobs and interesting stories. In this episode we met The Blue collar babies, the middle class Mami’s, and the white collar criminals all gathered around to have a conversation. What other podcast is going to show you that many walks of life in under an hour? Check it out!
