At Philly Mag, longtime Crossing Broad supporter Victor Fiorillo tracked down the woman who was seen yelling at Kylie Kelce in Margate recently. We nicknamed her “Margate Karen,” but “Mainline Karen” might be more appropriate, since Andrée Goldberg runs Teuscher Chocolates in Wayne, with her husband.

Fiorillo showed up at the shop and was essentially chased out by the husband, who said he was calling the police.

That resulted in a publicist sending the following statement:

“In a heated moment, I said things that were out of character for me and that I regret and for that, I am sorry. Although I apologized directly to the Kelce family on Saturday, I want to publicly apologize to them, and our community. My anger, and my actions, are not who I am, and certainly not indicative of the welcoming community of Margate.

As an adult and proud member of my community,  I should have recognized and respected their right to privacy from the onset. I am deeply appreciative of the grace and understanding shown to me by the Kelces and wish them nothing but the best.”

That should pretty much wrap it up. Mainline Karen apologized for her sloppy behavior and now life goes on. She’s been publicly shamed. What would the next step be anyway? A full boycott of Swiss chocolate? 24 hours in the pillory? Everybody’s done some dumb shit at some point in time, and if you haven’t, congrats, you either live in a monastery or you’re Mother Teresa herself.

If you read any of the Crossing Broad comments, or the comments on any HughE Dillon or Word to the Wise Podcast post, you saw people tagging Goldberg and outing her more than 36 hours ago. We didn’t name her because 1) we didn’t think the altercation was that big of a deal, and 2) doxing is shitty, but eventually she was going to be identified, and I don’t think Fiorillo did anything wrong here. If you go to this woman’s place of business in a stalker-ish way for cheap clicks, then you’re a douche bag. But if you go with the intent of getting her side of the story, you’re not doxxing, you’re doing journalism. Was there more to the altercation that we didn’t see? Were Kylie and Jason also being dickish? That’s what you’re trying to find out, since you’ve only got a short video to work with, in addition to HughE’s reporting. Mainline Karen should absolutely be given the opportunity to respond, or in this case, have her husband chase the reporter out of the store while filming, before having the publicist reach out. Not the greatest way to handle it, but thus ends the saga.
